Holy Spirit, Please Help a Mama Out

Spread the love

“Holy Spirit, please help a mama out.”

It’s a prayer I say . . . a lot. As a mom of two kids, I find myself needing a whole lot of help from the Holy Spirit some days. (Okay, most days.) This mama relies on the fruit of the Spirit, let me tell ya.

Love? Oh yes, I love my kids like crazy. They are my whole world.

Joy? I’m filled with joy every time I hear a “I wuv you, Mommy,” and with every wet, slobbery kiss that comes my way.

However, peace? Well, I’m a mom so I worry. A lot. I’m in desperate need of some peace pretty much all of the time, but especially at night where all I do is think.

Forbearance? (aka patience or restraining) Oh yeah, this is a hard one for me. I’m an impatient woman so when my kids start testing my patience, watch out. Which brings us to . . .

Gentleness? Yeah . . . I’m prone to raise my voice when my patience is lost and I unleash the mom rage. Raise your hand if you’re a snappy mom, well, me too.

Self-Control? Well, if I am struggling with patience and gentleness then I would say, yes, I need some self-control in those areas of my life (and maybe some self-control when it comes to mint chocolate chip ice cream . . . just sayin’).

Which brings us back to this prayer–”Holy Spirit, help a girl out!”

What I think we forget a lot of the times is that He (the Holy Spirit) is within us. He’s not hovering over us or walking beside us but He is literally IN us.

The fruit of the Spirit are at my disposal when I’m having a hard day with my kids. It’s all just a prayer away.

All I have to do is harness the power of God inside me.

And when a mama walks by the Spirit–when she has Jesus on her side–she is unstoppable.
