10 Scriptures for the Anxious Heart
Dear God, please put my anxious heart to rest tonight so I can get some sleep.
It’s in my prayers every night, without ceasing.
Sometimes I find peace when my head hits that pillow and I can go to sleep quickly (and stay asleep for at least a good six hours). Other nights, I’m still lying awake for a good two hours before I find sleep. You’re probably wondering, what can you possibly be thinking about for two hours straight?
I wish I could tell you.
Some nights, it’s everything.
Other nights, it’s nothing that turns into something.
But if you have anxiety, you know what I’m talking about. You know what it’s like to have your mind go off for hours. To feel your heart racing and your chest getting tight as your anxiety is swelling up within you. And if you have anxiety, like me, you’re probably praying to God every night to help you find some peace.
If anxiety has you lying awake at night or in a panic during the day, here’s ten scriptures that can help with that:
- “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?” -Luke 12:25
- “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” -Psalm 27:1
- “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” -1 Peter 5:7
- “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” -Proverbs 12:25
- “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-7
- “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” -Matthew 6:34
- “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
- “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” -Psalm 94:19
- “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” -John 14:27
- “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” -Psalm 56:3
Praying you find some peace, Mama.
