He Smiles When He Sees My Face
He smiles when he sees my face.
He lights up when he hears my voice. Just hearing me in the room can calm him down if he starts fussy.
He’s recently begun touching my face to study it and playing with my hair as he eats.
He giggles when I tell him, “Mommy loves you.”
He’s enamored with me. He loves his Mommy. Right now, I’m his whole world (and Daddy and big siblings, too, of course). But this bond between Mama and her baby–it’s a special bond.
I gave birth to him. I nourish him (like, 24/7 this kid eats). Right now, I’m his everything and he already knows–Mommy loves him. Unconditionally.
But God’s love is even greater . . .
God loves him more.
As he is comforted by the sound of my voice, I’m reminded that our Heavenly Father comforts us the same way I comfort my baby.
As he studies my face, I know there is so much I will have to teach him about this world; but the most important thing I’ll teach him is who God is and what Jesus did for him on the cross.
As he giggles and smiles when I tell him I love him, I’m reminded that I want him to always know, first and foremost, that God loves him more.
Right now, I’m his everything. But I pray someday God will be his everything. That God will guide him and he’ll always know that God is with him always . . . because someday I won’t be able to.
Right now, he smiles when he sees my face . . .
And someday, I pray he knows that his Heavenly Father smiles down on him always.
