The Job Title is Mommy (Motherhood Job Description)
Position: Mommy
Other Titles: Mom, Mama, Mother, “Get me snacks”
Report to: Children (who are very demanding)
Job Purpose: To raise children to be kind humans who will eventually contribute to society. To raise kids who will be the next generation of disciples. And to raise them to be self-sufficient to where they will move out and be on their own one day.
General Responsibilities:
- Cares for children 24/7 with no break, no pay, and no vacations.
- Teaches children right from wrong and discipline when appropriate.
- Teaches children who God is and what Jesus did for them on the cross. Train them up in the direction they should go so when they’re old, they will not get lost.
- Change diapers, wipe noses, cook meals, wash clothes, and do other housework as required.
- Grocery shopping and ensuring there is an adequate supply of fruit snacks at all times (this is a must).
- Bathes children and ensures proper hygiene standards as best to your ability (some days are harder than others).
- Referee children when disputes occur.
- Love your children unconditionally. (This one is very easy to do and requires no special skills.)
Knowledge & Skills Required:
- Able to self-motivate as there is very little recognition and no compensation for said position.
- Ability to work long days without a break to feed oneself or shower.
- Knowledge of nursery songs, children’s books, and children’s television shows.
- Knowledge of effective communication and conflict management techniques when children are acting up or fighting with each other.
- Knowledge of multiple discipline techniques since not all children are the same and each age comes with new challenges.
- Ability to remain calm and patient under all circumstances as children will test your patience and/or you will lose your mind if you don’t.
- Knowledge of caring for boo-boos, cooking, and cleaning boogers and marker off the walls.
- Ability to lift children and carry them around all day (potentially two children).
- Ability to lift a diaper bag weighing approximately 10-15 pounds (maybe more, depending on how many children you have).
- Ability to make a good, strong pot of coffee because coffee is essential in job performance.
- Ability to offer as much love and grace as humanly possible to your kids. (After all, that’s what they need most.)
