Love is Patient and Kind

Love is patient and kind.

It’s not about getting the last word in an argument. It’s not about who’s wrong and who’s right.

It’s not easily angered and does not keep a record of wrongs.

It’s not about who makes more money or has more success in their career. It’s not about “one-upping” each other. It’s a partnership. For when the two become one flesh, each has a different job to do to keep the body working. It’s being a unified front in this crazy, beautiful life.

It does not envy and it’s not boastful or self-seeking.

It’s about sharing the responsibility when it comes to raising your kids. Whether it’s who has the night shift with the newborn or whose turn it is to change that diaper blow-out. It’s making decisions about how to raise your children—together.

It’s about compromising when it comes to what show you should binge-watch next. (And let’s be honest, there is way more compromising than just that.)

It’s not going to bed angry with one another or without having apologized after a quarrel.

It’s growing old together and, no matter what, still finding time together among the chaos of the world. It’s about the little things—the hand-holding, date nights, and snuggles on the couch—those little things will become big moments in your marriage.

It’s always kissing each other “goodnight” because tomorrow is never promised. It’s cherishing every day and every moment you have.

It’s praying together. It’s doing life together. It’s telling each other all about your day. It’s showing your children what a marriage should look like; how a man should love his wife and how a wife takes care of her husband. It’s spending life with your best friend—until death do you part.

Love is always trusting, always hoping, and always persevering.

Love never fails.

(And thank you, honey, for being the love of my life.)

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” -1 Corinthians 13:4-8
