Every Good and Perfect Gift is From Above
Every good and perfect gift is from above.
Says so right there is James 1:17, but how often do we take those gifts for granted?
When the day has been too hard and instead of reading your toddler that book, you say, “Maybe tomorrow,” because you’re just too tired.
When your kids want to play with you but you’re too swamped with the house chores.
When you’re overstimulated by all of the yelling and screaming, and so you snap instead of meeting them with love. Or when they’ve overwhelmed you with every “why” question imaginable and instead of fully teaching them, you’re short with them.
I confess that I take my perfect gifts from God for granted . . . a lot.
(And don’t get me wrong here, I am an imperfect human in need of grace and Mommy needs breaks as well. It. Is. Hard. I won’t deny that.)
However, when I’m rocking the baby or snuggling a toddler, I can’t help but pray,” Thank You, Lord, for this perfect gift.”
When I’m met with kisses and hugs followed by a “I wuv you, Mommy,” I remember to thank Him for those blessings.
When I hear about a tragedy that another family is facing, I pray for them first, but then I always thank God for my family.
I may take them for granted when life gets overwhelming or hard, but He sure pulls me back in and reminds me from Who all my blessings are from. In the stillness and tender moments of motherhood. And in the painful and scary moments.
He reminds me that–every good and perfect gift is from Him.
(And maybe you need that reminder tonight, too.)
