The Only Mom for the Job: 5 Scriptures for When you Feel like “Just a Mom”
It’s no easy task.
There are no promotions or a big, fancy office with your name on the door. There is very little recognition and no vacations.
The job is just simply, “mom.”
And that can come with a little bit of feeling insignificant or unimportant. When people ask us what we do and we have no other job outside of the house, we respond, “I’m just a mom.” (See how I put emphasis on the word just?)
“Just a mom,” meaning it’s not a job of importance and no one really cares what I do for a living. We say it and we can hear judgement from others. We feel like we’re not properly contributing to society or like we should be financially helping our household and, yet, all we do is vacuum Goldfish crumbs, do the dishes, and laundry all day long.
Oh mama, it’s so much more important work than that. You’re caring for God’s children and that’s not a job that He takes lightly. He says that you are doing important work, because this work you’re doing – it’s shaping their lives.
So, here’s four scriptures for you to reference for when you feel insignificant and like you are “just a mom.”
- “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24
- “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
- “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
- “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16
- “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’” Proverbs 31:28-29
Mama, it’s no easy task, but you’re just the mom for the job.
You’re the only mom for the job and that’s exactly why He picked you for it.
