Mommy is the Only One to Make You Feel Better
She spent the day on my lap.
Just sleepy, cuddly, and she had no interest in playing.
She had a fever and was cranky. She didn’t sleep well the night before (so, of course, neither did the rest of the house). And she just wasn’t herself.
As a mother, you feel so helpless when your child is sick. They look at you with those big eyes that say, “Mommy, make it go away.”
You want to make it all go away. You’d love to take their pain off of them and put it on yourself. You’re used to fixing it all – making everything better – that’s what mom’s do.
And even though I couldn’t just make it better, I know I still gave her the comfort she needed. All day long, Mommy was her favorite person.
It was my lap she sat on all day.
It was me she followed around, crying to be put in my arms.
It was me who pampered her all day long to the point where it probably made her older brother jealous.
When you’re little and you don’t feel good, Mommy is the comforter.
Mommy’s your rock and your safehouse.
Mommy’s the only one to make you feel better.
Of course, as mothers, we’ll always worry when our babies get sick. We’ll always feel like we should be doing more.
And even though we want to just take away all of the pain, sometimes just being their source of comfort is all they need.
Sometimes the best thing we can do, is to just be their rock.
