The “Happy Pill”

Spread the love

The “happy pill.”

It’s commonly what people call antidepressants. However, if you suffer from depression, you know it doesn’t exactly work that way.

Sure, it helps balance those chemicals in that brain of yours. It helps, I’m not saying it doesn’t. It saved me years ago from suicidal thoughts, so I know the importance of that little white pill.

However . . .

You can still find yourself struggling to get out of bed in the morning.

You can still struggle to find the beauty of the day, maybe even the whole week.

You can still cry for no apparent reason and get irritable with your kids.

You can still struggle and not feel, well, “happy.”

Does that mean there’s no hope?

Absolutely not.

Hope can be found in Jesus. Hope’s name is Jesus.

Hope can be found in therapy.

Hope can be found in God’s Word because, after all, He is close to the brokenhearted.

Hope can be found in seeking out little moments that bring you joy.

That “happy pill” may be a lifesaver but it’s not where happiness is truly found.

Happiness still has to be found otherways but it will be found, my friend.

It will be found.
