When You Bring Home a New Baby

Spread the love

There’s something about when you bring a new baby home and you start looking at your other children. All of the sudden, the baby of the family no longer looks like a baby.

You start noticing how big those hands have gotten.

Their feet all of the sudden look massive as you’re comparing them to your newborn’s baby feet.

They’re taller; it’s as if they grew overnight.

And you wonder, “How long was I in the hospital??” It’s as if they changed instantaneously the moment you brought that baby home.

And it leaves an ache in your heart.

Sure, you’re already emotional. And yes, you’re thrilled to have a new addition to the family. But the moment you bring that baby home, your other baby is no longer the baby.

And you wonder if you missed it.

You worry it went by too fast and it’s only going to get faster.

You’re mourning what once was–your little one who is not so little anymore, but is now taking on the role of big sibling.

There’s something about when you bring home a new baby to meet their new siblings . . .

It makes you realize just truly how fast it all goes.

And to savor all of God’s blessings even more.
