“In a Minute,” I’ll be the Perfect Mother
I lost count of how many times I said “one sec” today.
“Mommy, I want to go outside.”
“One sec, I’m doing dishes.”
“Mommy, I want to watch Mickey.”
“One sec, sister is sleeping.”
“Mommy, I’m hungry.”
“One sec, bud, I’m changing sister’s diaper.”
Or how many times I said “in a minute.”
“Mommy, let’s build a fort.”
“In a minute honey, I’m folding laundry.”
“Mommy, come play with me.”
“In a minute, sweetie, I’m bathing sister.”
“Mommy, read this book to me.”
“In a minute, honey, sister’s crying and I’m trying to calm her down!”
Too much today, you were told to wait (and waiting is hard for a toddler, I know). Too many times you were told that you weren’t as important as something else. Too many times today, your sister’s needs came before yours.
I’m trying my hardest to stretch myself between all of the needs of others and there’s no time to attend to my needs (like feeding myself and taking a shower).
But I never want you to feel unimportant or unloved. The thought of it makes my heart break.
So, my sweet, little boy, please be patient with mommy. Today I may have failed but tomorrow is a new day. Tomorrow I will try again to be the mom that you deserve.
