Letting Go
Letting go.
If someone were to ask us moms what the most difficult part of motherhood is, my bet is we’d all unanimously agree: it’s letting go.
It’s the round and pudgy toes that slim out and grow longer.
It’s the “Ma-ma” that becomes “Mommy” which then becomes just “Mom.”
It’s the first steps they take in the opposite direction and having to let go of their little fingers so they balance themselves.
It’s weaning from breastfeeding or packing up all the bottles.
It’s the move from the crib to the big bed.
It’s seeing that little face, filled with fear mixed with excitement, as they take their first steps into their new school. And watching them make that big move from baby to “big” kid.
It’s watching the tassel as it moves from one side to the other, holding your breath and knowing this is it. The big one.
And it’s packing up their bedroom so they can head out into the big, scary world. The “grown-up” world.
All along the way, it’s letting go.
Moving from one stage to the next–season to season–not knowing how much your heart can take.
I thank God for every moment of it.
Every. Single. Moment. Took my breath away.
He’s the master at crafting a beautiful story, and I sure am grateful for the beauty I’ve seen play out in my life.
I may have to let go and move on, but I’ll always treasure it all.
