I Can’t Always Save You, But I Can Point You to the One Who Can

Spread the love

I often forget about your innocence.

These little hands that will one day shape the world reminded me of this today.

Your sweet, little heart that knows nothing about hate or division because you just see people without noticing differences.

Your sweet, little mind that doesn’t understand what power is or what a war is.

Your angelic eyes that have never seen evil.

Your perfectly shaped little ears that have never heard unkind words spoken (except for maybe when Mommy raises her voice or gets angry from time-to-time).

I was reminded how innocent you are and how I’m shaping the next generation—right here in my own home.

I pray I do a good job. Lord, I pray that I don’t mess up this motherhood thing because I know I can’t go back and get a redo.

This, right here, every day is my one shot to do it well.

I pray I love you enough so that wherever you go in the world, you’ll always feel my love. That whenever you see evil or darkness in this world, you remember that love will always conquer over hate. Good will always persevere over evil. And showing kindness will always win.

I’d love to keep you sweet and innocent forever, but I know that I can’t shield you from everything forever.

I know I can’t always save you from all of the brokenness of this world . . .

But I can point you to the One who can.
