It’s Kingdom Work
“It’s kingdom work. Just keep telling yourself that as you change yet another diaper.”
That’s what I had to tell myself today. As I changed another diaper and I wiped another snotty nose or vacuumed up another pile of crumbs off my floor.
It’s kingdom work.
It feels mundane most days, yes. I’m not using my degree that’s hanging up on the wall. My most intellectual conversations most days consist of all the “why’s” of the world from the eyes of a toddler.
But it’s still kingdom work.
It’s not just laundry, dishes, and cooking meals. No, it’s addressing the needs of your family and putting them before yourself. It’s a selfless sacrifice to do this work. (Even if that means going all day without a shower or not being able to pee by yourself.)
It’s not just mediating between fighting children who are screaming at each other. And it’s not just dealing with tantrums on a daily basis and overusing timeouts or the word “no.” Nope, that’s not all it is. It’s teaching and molding your children into the person they will one day become. More importantly, the person that God needs them to be so they can fulfill the purpose He’s set out for them. It’s ensuring they have the right set of values instilled in them to set them out on a solid path in life.
It’s caring for the little humans that you’ve created, day in and day out. It’s taking care of the children that God has placed in your life and blessed you with. (Because remember, children are a gift from the Lord.)
It’s relying on God to get you through motherhood and partnering with Him as you raise His children.
And it’s all for those cute kids.
It’s all for God’s glory and to further His kingdom by raising up the next generation.
So when it starts to feel like you’re not contributing to society, or like you’re unappreciated, or like your work is meaningless, don’t forget this important fact.
It’s kingdom work.
