Motherhood

When You Become a Mom

Spread the love

I never thought I’d be a mom who would make her kids clean their room.

Or limit their television intake.

Or make them eat their vegetables.

Or make them wear elbow and knee pads on their bike.

Or limit their snacks before dinner.

Yeah, I didn’t think that was for me.

I thought I’d be the laid back kind of mom, because, well, I don’t eat my vegetables and I’m not the cleanest person in the world.

But something clicks when you become a mother. It’s like we see those kids and we just change. Our viewpoints of the world change and the “mom gene” kicks in.

We become the mom who’s yelling at her kids in the middle of the street because they’re not watching where they’re going.

We become the mom who’s snapping at her kids in the check-out line at the store because they’re on your last nerve.

We become the mom who uses the infamous, “Not under my roof,” line or the “Because I say so!”

All the things that we swore we’d never do with our kids or all of the things that we judged other moms for, yeah, we fall right into that now. But that’s just what moms do, it comes with the territory. They’re the keepers of their children and they’re just doing their best every day to raise those cute kids up to be kind, loving humans.

So, yeah, everything changes when you become a mom.

You don’t just become “that mom.”

You become “a mom.”
